Owner of Two Lakes Guest House and Halibut House

Hello, I’m David, a former boat captain turned host with a passion for the wild beauty of Alaska. Originally from Chicago, Illinois, and later from Key West, Florida, my journey to Alaska in 2003 was meant to be a temporary adventure, but it quickly turned into a lifelong love affair with this incredible state.

My Boat Captain Background

For many years, I worked as a boat captain on a variety of vessels, including research ships, ferries, tankers, tugboats, and fishing charters. My career on the water gave me invaluable experience navigating the often unpredictable and beautiful Alaskan waters. It was during these years that I developed my deep appreciation for the ocean, its ecosystems, and the breathtaking landscapes that Alaska has to offer.

The Move to Alaska

In 2003, I moved to Alaska with the intention of staying for just a year. But the stunning natural beauty of the state, along with the unique lifestyle and community, captivated me, and I’ve called it home ever since. Over the years, I’ve made a life in Alaska, finding a sense of peace and adventure that I couldn’t have imagined elsewhere.

Opening Two Lakes Guest House

In 2016, I found my perfect piece of paradise— a tranquil property that I began remodeling into what is now the Two Lakes Guest House. Nestled in the heart of Alaska’s wilderness, it’s a cozy retreat designed to immerse guests in the serene beauty of nature, with lakeside views and access to some of the best outdoor activities in the state.

In 2024, I officially opened the Two Lakes Guest House as a short-term vacation rental, welcoming travelers from around the world who want to experience the essence of Alaska.
